Checked out this morning as due to fly later tonight. Took MRT to Little India, did a walk around there visiting several Tao and Hindu temples although as they were busy didn’t really go in to explore. Visited the Malaysian Heritage Museum then took a bus to Changi village. Had lunch in the Hawker Centre including a Durian milkshake (the closest I got to eating the rather smelly Durian fruit). Started the day at the Botanical Gardens, then a trip down Orchard Road, where I ate. Then went to Fort Canning Park (did another geocache) and the Funan Digital Life Mall where I didn’t buy a laptop. Visited the Armenian Church, St Andrew’s Cathedral and through the Padang, passed the Cenotaph and War Memorial to Raffles Hotel where I had a Singapore Sling. Then via the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, took the MRT to the Quay where I saw the Merlion, walked to a Hawker Centre for dinner, then back to the Hotel.

Arrived at Singapore station around 8.30am having been woken at 5am to do passport controls. No shower (either on train, because I was too late, or at hotel, who didn’t have a room ready) so was a bit uncomfortable all day. Took the MRT from Outram Road to Chinatown and had breakfast at a hawker centre before taking a stroll around the area. Lovely area – some nice temples all close together. Up not so early, and checked out around 11am. Went over to KL Tower to do a geocache then walked same route as yesterday to Masjid Jamek (to spot some ceramic peacocks I had missed). Walked through Chinatown, had lunch at a restaurant where everything on the menu included tea, then walked towards the Old Station and Islamic area. Saw Masjid Negan (National Mosque) and visited the Islamic Arts Museum and whilst I was in, one of the best thunderstorms of my trip ensued. Sod’s Law that I couldn’t see it. Was up early and in the queue at the Petronas towers at 8.30am. I booked tickets for late afternoon then headed off to do a walk through Colonial KL and Little India. By the time I had finished that, it was 11.30 and 36 degrees, so a quick walk through a bit of jungle in the city (Bukit Nanas) before having lunch at the top of the KL Tower at the rotating restaurant, Seri Angkasa. After a short lie-in, I was at Ipoh train station and travelled on the 10.49 to Kuala Lumpur, first class. Once at KL Sentral, took the LRT to KLCC station, then walked under the towers and through the shopping centre to Traders Hotel. My room was on the 28th floor and overlooked the towers, an absolutely gorgeous view. Went for a swim in the roof-top pool then went for free cocktails whilst I waited to hear from Julie. Spent the day geocaching in Ipoh and the Cameron Highlands with Robin and Eve Leow. Got back late so ate in room.

Snuck in a quick massage on my shoulder on a drizzly morning before getting the shuttle service to the airport. Flew FY3609 USM-SZB 1120-1420 with Firefly, lovely clean ATR (9M-FYB) with orange colour scheme! Took taxi from Subang to Regalodge, in Ipoh (long trip!) Went out for dinner at Greentown Noodle House – very cheap – then came back to hotel to watch WBA v Liverpool live (the Sunday afternoon game).

After a late breakfast, the hotel arranged a minibus to take me sightseeing. Went to see the Mummified Monk, then an elephant ride, Na Muang Waterfalls, the Big Buddha, then back to hotel for massage. Ate in Hotel and watched another distant storm.

Taxi from Kanchanaburi to BKK in reasonable rain. Flight PG153 BKK-USG 1300-1400 (Bangkok Airways) was on time and earlier arriving than schedule due to “upgrade” to B717 (HS-PGR). Took minibus to Best Western Samui Beachview Hotel who managed to miss it, so had to drive back. Once checked in, took the hotel shuttle to Lamai Beach, walked along it from drop off point (about 2km) to Grandfather & Grandmother stone, then all the way back to Beach Republic for dinner. Taxi back to hotel and spent evening with beers overlooking Chaweng beach and uploading photos.
